Going Rate for a team entry...

Reading between the lines, it appears that at this point (8 months out from Cape Epic 2017) those with an available entry are looking to sell it (e.g. charge a margin on top of the cost of entry $5490 and rider changes ZAR1,000)

So, what is the going rate for purchasing a team entry at the moment? $1,000

Does the price change much over the coming months?  Getting cheaper towards the race date, and even being offered at a discount?

For someone looking to get a place (having missed out on early bird, lottery and a realistic waiting list opportunity) when is the optimum time to get a place?

Thanks.

There shouldn't be a profit from the sale. It's against the rules.

Generally pricing stays the same until Jan. Then they start coming down as people realise that they are not going to be able to make it.

There should be no reason to make a profit from the re-sale of an entry. Depending on when you sub an entry you're paying more because of the admin fee anyway.

If someone has however laid out extra cash for service & massage packages, one could argue that it should also not be fair to leave them stuck with that if, they are genuinely not able to participate.

Like all things, however "fair" and "against the rules" simply don't matter to some people; both buyers and sellers. So often the price will simply be what you're willing to fork out and everyone else be damned.

I have bought an entry twice from guys on bikehub. Both times the guys were helluva nice gents and genuine mountain-bikers that were simply faced with the heart-wrenching decision to sell their entries. Both times the subs were simple and straight-forwardly concluded.

In my experience, there is a bit of a flare-up of available entries about now, when people realize they are not able to fit the prep into their schedule. The next spate of entries in previous years seem to be around the time when route is announced. Then off-course there are the nervous couple of weeks/days just before the race starts, but those are usually gone very quickly.

My attitute in previous participations was to prepare and plan as if we had an entry, whether we had it or not. Training time seriously ramps up around December anyway, so by then most people should have either been able to grab an entry or start feeling you're going to be out of luck.
