Help with Shoes

Hey Guys

So i ride 510's with Saints and will continue to on more sketchy rides for now but I want to get some clipless pedals and shoes for XC, casual rides and Road too.

Pedal Options:

I like the look of the Shimano m530 trail pedal with the platform around think it will make it easier clipping in. (First time using clipless pedals) Any recommendations, do's/don'ts welcome.

I'm lost with shoes. Price range around 2k some options lower some higher,.

In no specific order:

Giro Privateer

Bontrager RL Mtb

Shimano M089L (or any other shimano shoe round that price?)

Louis Garneau Gravel Shoe

Any others? The Bontrager and the Giro I tried on and both and comfortable. The Shimano was my first choice but not too sure and the LG is just in the price range no idea. Looked at the 510 kestrel but not sure thats what I'm looking for.

Need a good all round shoe mostly for XC/All Mountain riding and secondly to use on road sometimes. Lighter weight would be great and doesn't need to be waterproof.

Privateer is old and the new R is out but its orange and grey :D and it has really good reviews. Can't find much on the Bontrager and Some love/hate Shimano and say they fall apart in reviews.

What do you guys wear? Any input would be great just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks

I bought the Shimano MO89L a while before I moved to flat and thought they were awesome. Really nice, comfortable shoe and the ratchet systems is great for fine adjustments.

These were use din conjunction with the Shimano trail pedals with the platform and found it to be very solid. A great combination.

In terms of clipping in and out of cleats, they all have a screw to adjust the tension to make them more loose so that clipping in and out is easier until you get used to it and then tighten them up a bit.

Awesome thanks, thought they looked like decent shoes and pedals I like think I'm sold on! Just confusing trying to pick shoes!

Best thing is to just try on a few and see which fits nicely. I would say though that the ratchet system is awsome. Never had one till the MO89L and inwould say thats a must...or the boa system.

where what fits you best - as mentioned fit is everything

don't go buy racing snake MTB shoes if you cant walk easily in them and they don't have decent tread (if you have to push sometimes) :whistling:

Thanks guys! Ended up with the Bontrager RL mtb shoes, fit was by far the best. Found Giro too narrow unfortunately and didn't get round to the Shimano. These feel stiff but decent enough to get off and push :D recently had to during a steep rocky uphill xc event so had that in mind! Thanks for the help. Now to practice clipping in and out
