Newlands / Contantia traverse - feedback.

There doesn't seem to be a thread for this new trail other than the article thread. And judging by the number of riders I saw, perhaps there's some valuable feedback to be had.

 

I rode the trail on Sunday morning for the first time, what a privilege. I'll be back again, and again, and again.

 

Thanks a million to all those involved in making this route possible, you rock!

 

One observation - some riders are passing walkers at too high a speed. On the weekend there are lots of walkers on some parts of this trail, people who've been walking this route for decades without worrying about MTB traffic.

 

We're not going to make any friends if we blitz past people who're out for a gentle stroll.

 

Walkers always have right of way. And if you're riding in a big group you need to be especially sensitive to this and ride in single file when you approach walkers..

 

A note to the organisers, the entrance to the portage section (constantia/newlands direction) could do with clearer signposting.

 

But thanks again, a really nice trail.

Awesome route, well done and thanks for organizing this.

I suggest that we add a few small signs to reminding cyclists to slow down in certain key areas as it is easy to forget and hold too much speed into corners etc.

A good start would be a sign at the top of the last piece of trail coming back towards Cecilia before you descend the paved trail down onto the jeep track.

Another spot would be in Kirstenbosch gardens where all the hiking trails converge.(entrance to Skeleton Gorge trail)
