To Rant, or not to Rant?

If the chain is not slipping too badly you can go and RIDE it in especially on the gears that are slipping. Only time that does not work is on the front chain rings. will take about 3 or 4 (200 to 250km) rides of putting up with the slipping and then all will be good.

Interesting... But then you've effectively messed up your chain?

Actually that's fair advice, if the cassette isn't too bad the chain may wear in after a few rides, it's worth a try.

I have experienced that after letting an old chain get a touch too worn, new chain slipped for 2 rides and then was fine, that was the last chain for that drive train though.

But ya, buying 2hnd cassettes and chain rings is fine as long as you ask the right questions and get the right answers/photos, I've successfully used a 2hnd cassette and chain rings bought off bikehub a few times.

I did get burnt doing that in the beginning, the key is do not assume anything.

Guy says like new only ridden 100km may not be lying but he's not telling you the 100km was ridden with an old poked chain that destroyed the drive train or in a mud bath that likewise vanquished things.

I see people trying to sell scrap in the classifieds quite often, hard to tell of they are being blatantly dishonest or just the typical over enthusiastic sales pitch.

You cannot RIDE IN a chain and cassette.

It will just go from bad to worse.

I've done it before, granted that's only if they are not to far off from each other in terms of wear, ie new chain and old cassette just over wear limits.

I would never , ever, ever... buy a used cassette.

Been there, done that. Ended up throwing away that cassette and gave the seller a negative rating
