Good day all. Does a coil front shock have load rating from 80-100kg. I was told to rather get a air shock becaise you can set it for a lower weight. My wife is 50kg. So the reason for my question

In short. It depends on the weight rating of the spring in the fork. What fork is it

Well the bikes in my price range are suntour xct xcm. Rockshock dart 2. Rock shock xc 30. Im not looking for any specific make.

Cool. Will check on those but afaik the suntour XCM & XCT are elastomer forks, which is a synonym for "crap fork" or "piece of ****"

Will check the others. Air is easier to adjust for weight as you're just altering air pressure instead of changing springs. But air isn't demonstrably better than coil except for weight ie they weigh less than coil forks. A good coil fork is a wonder to behold. Most new mid to high range forks are now air spring models, though. Weight and adjustability for rider weight.

What's your budget?

Your OH would most probably need a "soft" spring, which are hardly ever specced as standard in coil forks. They are available though.

But in her case an air fork would make sense because she'd be able to adjust it for her weight without taking it apart, and without having to get a spring that is suited to get weight.

Asking budget as there are some specials running on some of the interwebs based shops overseas and you may be able to pick up a bargain
