Perhaps you guys should consider the pressure she has to deal with being number 1 in the world for the past few years. If you would read up about her a bit - you would pick up that she has had lots of private issues too. Some respect please - she is one of the best players the world of tennis has ever seen!

Money... do you think top sportsmen or women compete for the bucks? Thats a very short sighted answer - pathetic really! You think that is what motivates Federer to go out and compete every day?? THINK again - or just THINK for a change!!

Shocked Next time I'm starting a BOOOOONEN is rubbish threadWink

Don't BAD TALK my fellow countrymen/women - as BTB knows I'm a bit sensitive when it comes to that Wink

And for the record, I for do not consider the pressure she is under. She is supposed to be a professional, and gets rewarded quite handsomely to perform. And besides, when it comes to tennis, the only thing I consider is the hotness rating of the player.

Well - she clearly couldn't cope with the pressure both from tennis (No. 1)and her private life... if she retired for 'the money' she could have done so 4 years ago!

I hope you're only watching the WTA BTB LOL

She tries to hit tennis balls past other people every day as her chosen job. and she is very good at it. and has made a s***load of money doing it but at the expense of her "family life". thats sad.

Hmm, Yes, an incredible athlete is Jeannie, and tough as nails as well.

To be at that level for so long in any sport is inspiring, but to be at that level and "still competitive" is just incredible!.

Tennis isn't really a sport, is it? You get a second chance if you don't get your serve in, you can sit down on a chair and rest and drink cooldrink after every second game, you can stop the whole thing to get some physio and you don't even have to keep score because somebody on that tall chair shouts it out.

I was there when Longo won her road race gold at the 96 Games. True legend! I don't think scrapbooking has taken off in France yet, that's why she's still racing. Other female cycling (road and MTB) legends include: Leontin Zijljaard van Moorsel, Julie Furtado, Gunn Rita Dahle-Flesjaa and of course Ann Caroline Chauson ? 10-time world MTB DH champ now going for BMX gold in Beijing!

Aaaah, now we are talking legends, Leontin must be one of the best woman cyclists ever, I was always in awe of her skills as an athlete.

Thanks SB for that info ! Leontin Zijljaard van Moorsel is also a true champion story. Saw a documentary on her the other day on DSTV, what a come-back after she almost killed herself by not eating anything. She looked like a skeleton. Luckily her man got her back on track again ... smiley9.gif

Yes, Van Moorsel's story is a great one! She got three golds at the 2000 Olympics if I remember correctly, a great way to end her career.

Gunn-Rita is also writing a good comeback story of her own. Just won a World Cup race this past weekend after being down with a long-term virus for almost a year! Hope she's back to peak form to defend her Olympic title. The Chinese have made a point of preventing her from even seeing the course! They have two or three women that will be in medal contention in Beijing...
