Riding with your kid on the N7 on a windy day

I recently met both the dad and kid on my commute home and they were very friendly and obeyed the rules of the road and the dad never left his son's side in dangerous sections of road.

That piece of road where you came across them is actually a very popular piece of road for cyclists to use as its part of the 99er route and you will see a lot more cyclists on that road in the coming weeks as we lead up to the race.

They probably spent around 2-3kms on the freeway(illegal) before they got to either the vissershok turnoff or the blouberg/tableview turnoff.

The dad is a very experienced rider and his son competed in the winter league 2016.

I am in no way condoning them riding on a freeway but just bringing some perspective to this.

+1, here in Bloemfontein you will always find cyclists on the N1 training. Is it safe, no, but so is riding on every road in S.A.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I sometimes use the N1 (about 2km stretch) to get to with my MTB some mountain bike trails in and around Bloem.

Just to mention one last thing about this.

WRT legal aspect.

As far as I know, if anything had to happen your life insurance / medical insurance could (not saying they would)  but COULD  refuse to pay out. "you were not supposed to be riding there"

Most of us have heard one or more stories like this before, insurance company not paying because the car license had expired(making it illegal to drive ) etc.

Then there is also the "set an excample" Adhere to the road rules etc that most people here support.

So we as cyclist do not have an excuse, we have to keep our house in order.
