Go with your knobblies, just put a bit more air in them.

 

It's much easier to drag drafting roadies through potholes with knobblies on, and on the way to Scarborough you can ride in the dirt next to the road and over take all the dawdling day trippers... 

 

My fastest time of 1 hour 50 minutes was done on knobblies with a flat front tire on the return leg which I couldn't be bothered to stop and fix... My slowest time of 6 hours 50 was done on slicks and a massive hangover from the night before...

 

On a serious note, I wouldn't bother changing them, you're probably going to start in a later batch and have heaps of peeps scattered across the road the whole way, so just chill and enjoy what is a darn fine event!!

I've got an extra set of rims and a set of slicks in the laundry room. Problem is my girlfriend is riding her mtb tyres so I must probably do the same.
