Road tubeless

Hi guys,

Is anyone out there successfully running road tubeless set-ups?

I'm familiar with MTB tubeless and the implications of the rims/tapes/tyres one can use, but there seems to be much less info out there on road tubeless.

I've got a pair or proper tubeless clincher rims (ie no spoke holes on the inside  ), but I'm hesitant to just fit any old foldable 700c tyre, because of the high pressures. Has anyone tried fitting 700c tubeless tyres vs normal 700c folding tyres? How easy/difficult were they to seat and seal? Any recommendations of sealant and/or tyre combinations?

Any experienced opinions or anecdotes welcome

Cheers

Ask carbon29er, loves road tubeless!

You have the rims, but you cannot fit regular old road tyres. You need to get yourself some tubeless road tyres. Seems the best best right now is schwalbe or Hutchinson, and they are pricey, but apparently it's worth it.

Do some more homework and you'll get by. But expect some good spending ahead.

Not sure that "no spoke holes" automatically make them tubeless.

If they are, would recommend getting an actual tubeless tyre - Schwalbe One tubeless seems to be top of the list currently.

Love my AMC tubeless topped out with Schwalble One rubber. Truthfully though I'm not sure how much less puncturing I'm doing as I hadn't had an issue for about 2 years with my GP4000s. Mainly think it's that the rims I've got are wider, the Ones are great rubber and I'm running them at lower pressures as well.

I used to run them.

They're more difficult to mount, but not a pain.

I stopped running them because of glass chips.  Little glass chips would still puncture -- just as often as tubed, and the slime wouldn't seal the hole until it's down to 3 bar or so.  Attempting to put a spare tube in to ride home was a problem, and once home patching tubeless tires was also a problem.

Back then there was only one tire (Hutchinson)
