Mintman Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Hey guys, I have a very simple question I need to check before making a purchase. I have an I-spec (A) SLX rear shifter and i'm buying an M7000 SLX brake set (with I-spec II or I-spec B options). I realize these two aren't compatible without making modifications. But besides taking up more handlebar space, is it still fine to clamp both separately? It's a 1x10. I just want to make sure it would still be close enough to operate brake and gear shifts seamlessly. I don't have a clamp for the shifter yet but are they easy to find and relatively inexpensive? If there are any better solutions then please let me know. Thanks!
popcorn_skollie Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 I spec B shifters are backwards compatible with either I spec A or B brake levers.I spec A shifters however are not.I spec 2 shifters and brakes are not back wards compatible at all. But. There's a few products called 'problem solvers' for solving these compatibility issues.Including making some of srams matchmaking stuff work with some of shimano's i spec stuff.Which exactly I'm not sure. It's worth noting that their cost may not justify the convenience if you have existing clamps to mount both beside each other. Matchmaking does offer a slightly better ergonomic reach and about 15mm of extra bar space. But they're aren't necessary for functionality.
Mintman Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 Awesome, that's exactly what I was hoping. Will just check where I can get a separate mount for the shifter. I'd consider buying a newer shifter but it's hard to find them single unless they're 11 spd.
