Newbie needs advice please: bike size?

I'm very new to mtb, looking to buy a 2nd hand bike, but have no clue what size to get, and confused by frame size and wheel size. Tried my hubbies bike, way to big. I'm 1,66m tall. Any tips appreciated on size and good brands to keep an eye out for.

I suggest going to a bike shop and getting advice there because sizing is crucial when it comes to comfort.

It depends a bit ons the specific bike, as the geometries do vary a bit.

 

But you'll be looking at a 16-17" frame. Depending on the bike, probably Small.

 

I'd suggest you go to a bike shop and ask them to measure you, and suggest a size

I would suggest a small mtb, wheel size probably 650B (27.5), but there are a lot of 26ers out there that you could get at a bargain price.

 

Look out for Silverback, Momsen and Titan, all good value for money bikes.

My wife is about the same size. Here's what she has:

 

A 29er on a small frame. The saddle is as low as it can go though. She did get a fitting done though. I would recommend you do the same.

 

It might also be easier to consider something like 27.5 bike. Seems easier for the ladies to ride.
