What's the experience from all you MTBing Hubbers? I've looked at and fiddled with ratios from the respective cassettes, but how big is the difference in real terms (legs on steep climbs / knees on long rides)?

All I can say is that I got a shock when I looked at my cassette last night and discovered it was a 32 already. I thought it was 34 and wanted to replace it with a 32. Do you get 11-30 MTB cassettes?

I am still running and old 7sp 12-28 classette and it work well with a 22/32/42 at the front.  I was wondering how feasible it would be to go to a 40/29 x 12-34.Confused

I dont think it makes any practical difference ...unless you plan on trying to ride up walls with that gearing...

Might help you stay in the middle ring on climbs with steep sections (or the big ring if you have access to the stuff that is sometimes packaged in a Sidi shoebox).

I prefer the 34, as it allows ne to stay in the middle ring for longer. However the ratios are further apart and you feel this on the rolling hills, well I do.

I am thinking of going for a 2 blade up front. Not sure of the ratios, but would also probably go for 29-44 x 11-34. still looking and not strong enough yet.

I find that when I run a 34 on the back there is no need for granny gear, therefore is more practical and weight saving if your a weight weenie.

I run a 44-32 on the front and a 11-34 on the rear, dont know if you watched the XC nationals at cascades in PMB, that 1st hill was really steep and the gears made it easy to ride up where as the guys running an 11-32 had to run up. Didnt think it made that much of a difference at the start but when you need that extra gear it does make a huge 1. But all depends on the type of course you are going to be riding, leg strength etc.
