Buying MTB Shoes Second Hand

Hi guys,

I am looking to switch over to cleats instead of just flat pedals. I am on a bit of a budget I am looking at getting shoes second hand.

Any tips on what to look out for, or whether this is even a good idea?

I am quite a casual rider, do some trail riding. I also spin at the gym, would the same shoes work for my mountain bike as well as the spinning bikes at the gym?

Thanks!

You can get some good deals on second hand shoes, or look at Olympic, First Assent or Maxed ( Mr Price) to start out on.

The Cleats on MTB Shoes will fit into the Spinning bikes at the Gym.

GO for it, it will increase your Peddling efficiency by 35% and is safer - your feet don't bounce of the peddles on the down hill sections.

When you first get them, make sure you practice clipping in and out in a doorway so you can hold yourself up... soon this will become second nature

Maxed = R550

First Ascent = R1000

Buying second hand shoes is personal choice. Some don't mind, some think it's disgusting.

If you just want to try it out, you will find decent second hand shoes in the classifieds or alternatively go to Sportsmans and buy a pair of First Ascent or Olympics.

Remember you still need to get the cleats for the shoes and the clipless pedals for your bike.

And yes, SPD cleats work on spin bikes.
