How's the puncture protection on GP4000s? Decent?

Its average... For a daily tyre you better off with the Gators.

The gp4000s is soft and picks up cuts quite easily.

This topic has been revived quite often and typically you have a mob telling you to just buy gatorskins and ignore everything else and the opposite side mob will be telling you different.

Now personally I have had more punctures on gatorskins than any other tyre I have tried and have had the best life and puncture protection from my Schwalbe Ones. So I am strongly anti gatorskins and Conti for that matter.

Punctures has more to do with luck and actively avoiding stuff in the road than the durability of any of the good tyres. And really there are pros and cons to any of the tyres out there.

Gator hardshell may technically be thought of as the toughest tyres out there but it takes 1 string of bad luck getting 3 punctures in 1 day - ( true story) for that to change anyone's mind.

You cannot compare a race day GP4000s to gatorskin. different products and has different properties due to different applications or requirements - grip vs durability etc

Decide what application you want your tyres for and pick the right product.
