Trucks Parked in Yellow Lanes

You wouldn't think it, but it happens easily. Was sitting behind my old man battling into a headwind about a decade ago and we both went into a parked truck. Luckily it was a strong Durbanville headwind and on an uphill so I was largely unscathed, but pops had some bruised ribs and a wonky shoulder for some time afterwards.

Thats a fair question and maybe a truck should be obvious to see, but when battling winds head down it can happen.

I guess **** happens, but if you're riding through an industrial area, where trucks are known to be parked in the yellow lanes and don't keep your eyes trained on the road ahead of you, then any incident where you collide with a stationary truck is your doing.

A little common sense goes a long way in life. The trucks may be parked illegally, but that doesn't diminish the need for you to apply the necessary caution when riding along.

Here's an update ....

Hi -

Paid a visit to the hospital. Spend a long while talking to Rita, and then they called us in when Attie woke up post-operation, and we were able to speak to him. Very groggy, and he fell asleep again soon after, but was awake enough to carry a conversation, and to express sincere gratitude for all the well-wishes sent his way. So rest assured he knows you guys are rooting for him.

On the medical front, given that he had a C6/7 injury, he is lucky enough to have retained arm&wrists movement (but unfortunately fingers are immobile at this stage). His arms and wrists can move, 'up' and twisting the wrist. From a rehab point of view this a massive bonus, and everyone if very thankful for this, since it gives the rehab team a lot more options in terms of new day-to-day skills.

When he asked me find out about hand-cycles I knew that he will persist through this. He even found time to ask me sarcastically whether I dont have work to do and why Im hanging around there in the middle of the day. Sharp as always.

Looking ahead, he will remain in N1 City for another few days, and will then move over to Vincent Pallotti's special quad/para rehab dept, where there will be daily physio and OT sessions to teach skills and get strong, and be fitted with whatever equipment he will need to have made for him. That process will take 4+ weeks.

It is early days, but things will move forward from here.  Thanks again for everyone sending good wishes. He said multiple times how much he appreciates that.

Regards
