I am aware of the courses presented by mr Bornman and CrankyMonkey? Has anybody done any of these? What is your feeling on this, is it worthwhile? Any recommendations?

Have done the 1st maintenance course with JB and well worth it. I would say that you don't come out a guru wrench but you have a better understanding of what all those specialist tools are, what you can and can't do yourself and if you do take your bike to your lbs for some work you understand exactly what they are doing and what you are paying for.

Even if you decide that certain things are beyond you, you can still do all the maintenance stuff yourself and the course pays for itself then.

Johan does courses all over www.yellowsaddle.co.za

I did one in JHB with him, 2 days, great experience, learnt to do everything I needed to do BY MYSELF, with hands-on tutaledge during the course. Well worth it, and got a great set of tools too which have been used consistantly.

Now all I get from my LBS is parts and I dont pay them R75 to true a wheel or R280+ for a service.

Great to have the knowledge to be self sufficient and understand the history and how to of bicycles, road and mtb.
