1x or 2x mtb cranksets

I have question: when I went from a 2x setup to a 1x setup, I just removed the FD and Shifter, cables and replaced the chainring with a suitable 1x Chainring.

Now I see that you can get a 1x specific crankset.

Other than "looks" and maybe 5g saving, is there any other reason for changing the crankset from a 2x to a 1x?

Nope. The 1x cranksets just come with a NW chainblade as far as I know.

What crank do you currently have?

It does not really matter, there are some cranks with which a slightly better chainline is better, but then again you can achieve that with spacers.

What is most important is having a 1x specific chainring (you have that already). And it is of benefit having a clutched derailleur.

So to answer you; it is not necessary to have a 1x specific crank.
