if we were all still riding V-brakes, then it would be a different story!

Yep I recall having to panel beat my rims every month or so, so that I could get reasonably smooth braking with the rim brakes - also before the days of suspension of any kind so rims used to get beat up PDQ...

 

The "trueness" of the wheel will not affect the ride of the bike in any means or form (for most of us MAMILS)  - as long as it turns between the frame you're good to go...
