Not sure what the price is on the polar unit. I have a Garmin forerunner 35(around R3k I think now) Records altitude, speed, records gps routes as well and has a heart rate monitor. I have been using it for a year and a half without any issues. Discovered yesterday that I could link strava to the Garmin connect app(never used strava before) and strava now shows all my data from the Garmin. Including all my previous rides before yesterday. Was quite stoked to see that it automatically picks up all the segments etc, without having to even open the app(i know a few guys who open the app, hit record, and then throw it in there camelbak while riding) . I never had to do this.

I had an M400 previously, and I would imagine the M430 is +- the same, + oHR.

So yes, you can do all of that, you can also get a cycle mount for the watch.

(It has 4 modes IIRC, Running, Cycling, Other Indoor, Other Outdoor.  Measures altitude with GPS.  (no Baro))
