  1. No need to over complicate it as this stage - did you try water (only), and is it not working for you? At what intensity do you ride? (I can see why the sport nutrition and wellness industries makes gazillions...)
  2. 🤣🤣🤣 - Philip spends A LOT to maintain the route, like a couple of hundred-thousands over 7y already.
  3. Philip is still busy with his project for the community - a double lane!
  4. Runner’s World Editor’s Races Under Scrutiny Did she or didn't she?
  5. and many (majority?) are in denial re this simple truth and will try even more / different etc products next time, instead of training and to condition properly to deliver the required effort.... (in general)

  7. Re gears - I spent some time in Germany during Sept and it seems many commuter bikes are fitted with some sort of internal hub, not unlike these, plus a front dynamo hub powering the cycle light.
  8. Won't an accelerometer based speed sensor be better? (Or an MR Sensor) The V2 Garmin Speed Sensor can also cache measurements to a certain extend.
  9. Not the point of the discussion, but let's see, from 40 km/h: Approx 6.24m for a bike Approx 9m for an ave family car
  10. Not doping but large scale cheating! https://runningmagazine.ca/sections/runs-races/11000-runners-disqualified-from-mexico-city-marathon-for-cheating
  11. (How) does it 'equate / normalise' strength / weigh training for application to running / cycling training optimisation?

  13. So that will be in excess of $24 Billion - I wonder where do they get the funding from, any ideas?
  14. Not TdF related - but it reminded me it happened (thumb tacks) on the Rapport tour (Sun city road?) as well, IIRC.
  15. Actually this is the procedure: Road-Race-Course-measuring.pdf
  16. Why your GPS will show 89 km plus at the end of Comrades!!!! by Norrie Williamson
  17. Indeed - 1-2%. Also one does not necessarily follow the 'racing line'. Eg a couple of meters wider each turn does add up. (When following a GPS track on a race I compensate for this by adjusting my est times a bit)
  18. I am not sure how this was measured - if it was measured with a GPS the normal variance can be 1-2%. Good luck! 💪
  19. Can't vouch for the accuracy - use at you own risk. (However is should be OK, it is from Graham Block on the Run Zone FB Page ) I did a quick check and at least it is ending at Kingsmead. ultra_marathon-CMSA-COMRADES-2023-2023-05-23_112103.gpx
  20. From https://runningmann.co.za/2023/05/25/comrades-2022-full-field-race-stats/ there was even an H runner over the start mat within 30 sec of the start:
  21. I witnessed some runners who will even sneak into starting pens higher than what they qualified for by eg temp adjusting their batch letter or by some other means.
  22. Sure, I hear you. OP came here to reflect on his expectations and experience and got personally attacked, insulted, humiliated both for not being 'tough enough' (although he did finish IIRC) and for his command of the English language. So by implication do some 'tough guys' (bully's?) think they have carte blanche to behave like this? (As by inference non-tough cyclist will have no reason to respond, you know - walk the talk before you jump although I am quite sure some -drive-by's also joined in with the stoning) Do we really want to treat a fellow cyclist this way - you know, personal values, respect etc?
