Ride like the three tossers that most motorists would have just taken out on Sunday on the Main Road in Muizenberg / Fishhoek. at around 11 am

First Husband and Wife / life partners whatever, she in pink him in grey / black. she is listening to her Ipod oblivious to all around her, they both decided to cut in front of my car as I am turning left. totaly clueless. I think that a great number of motorists would not have seen them and kept going. or just taken them out.

Second the guy who shot the red robot (not orange or newly red) full on red, Once again I almost took him out when I turned into Main Road.

These tossers are going to get hit one day and will no doubt blame the motorists. Then there will be the usual outcry. I understand so clearly why motorists have absolutly no sympathy for cyclists who are injured or killed and why they dont respect us on the roads.

There are so many cyclists out there giving all of us a bad name, based on what I see there are more riders breaking the law than those not. If you ride in the middle of the day when the roads are busy, just follow the damn rules of the road or prepare yourself for the worst. next time you jump a light think not only of the russan roulette you are playing with your life, but also of the PR job you are doing for all of us. Tossers -you know who you are!

Well done to those cyclist who do obey the law, I also see plenty of guys waiting patiently at robots and stopping for stop signs, keep it up.

I agree, cyclists should always be on their best behaviour on the road. I personally make a point of always being courteous and respectful to motorists, since I'd like them to look out for me.

I agree that as a cyclist it's your responsibilty to be hyper-alert at all times, since the danger is all around you. You must ride defensively and ASSUME that motorists will make mistakes. Act as if you NEVER have the right of way. That's the safest way to act in my opinion.

However...

I admit to going through red robots. But it's not like I'll just blow through them without looking. I stop - or slow to a crawl - and take a good look in both directions and then proceed if it is safe to do so.

I'm not saying it's right, but stopping at every light just destroys your rhythm. And I don't believe I'm giving all cyclists a bad name by doing that - as long as I'm not cutting in front of people or endangering another individual, it's my risk, not theirs.

Cyclists who swear and flip the bird at motorists and act like they're god's gift to the tarmac are the ones who give cyclists a bad name.

Also, reading about all the guys that have been killed, I get the impression that it happens most on long roads, without robots, where the cyclists have been taken out from behind without any warning. It's that kind of driver you've got to watch out for.
