Hectic,

On a side note have noticed more parents taking small kids on the Spruit which is great. There was however a father taking his son yesterday and passed him at both Linden St and then later below old parks, without helmets. Not cool! Was very impressed by this kid 'cos they rode a long way and he couldnt have been more than 6-8 years old.

All of you should try this out, don't flow with the traffic but ride at the speed limit or under, note the rude looks and abuse that gets thrown your way. Now imagine what goes through some of those minds when they see a fit, healthy, happy cyclist in front of them? Just food for thought.

PS - I travel 4000 - 8000km/month so I get plenty abuse, I ride my car like I ride my bike, with care and consideration for others.

GLAD THE YOUNGSTER IS OK

TNT1, I am in a similar boat, I have a 6 and 3 yr old. I had to wait for the "his fine" before I decided to post. I got goose bumps as I could hear MY child screaming for me to help him (because in his eyes I can do everything), and I feel worthless as there is nothing I can do. He is also crying that the hot exhaust is burning him and it won't stop. Seriuosly, I have got to stop the role playing as it really hurts Cry

Obeying speed limits is not enough. Coming home at 10:00pm at night in a housing area @ 50-60 might be acceptable. From 2 - 6 pm, you should not exceed the 30 - 40km\h. This way, one might have been able to avoid this accident. There is a reason most complexes have a speed limit of 20 - 30 km/h, it's called KIDS

I am just so happy the kid will be fine, it's the suffering the parents must have gone through, seeing their kid under a car, that still hurts.

so when will motorist start taking responsibility for their actions.  WHy is it NEVER their fault, and everyone else has to change their behaviour to accommodate their "bad" behaviour?  Just like smokers were 10 years ago.

Phew - really harsh that thread!!! Have two little ones myself and live in a gated community where the speed limit is strictly enforced. I make sure that the kids wear their helmets at all times. My eldest (son) has a road bike that he is looking forward to riding out of the estate, but at 8 years old I just dont think that he is ready for the road for a few more years!

What does my head in though is seeing the little ones not strapped into car chairs. Do people not realise that their children become projectiles in the event of a crash??? Angry
