Bongani is the Chief Trail Builder at Northern Farm Nature Reserve in Lanseria, Johannesburg. Northern Farm Nature Reserve (also known as the Diepsloot Nature Reserve) is one of Johannesburg's best-kept secrets and offers over 2500ha of beautiful green grasslands, woodlands and dams to explore. Many different recreational users i.e. cyclists, horse riders, hikers and birders enjoy relaxing in the open space and clean air of the farm. Northern Farm is a non-profit, volunteer-run organisation with a few trail staff who put their heart and soul into the upkeep of the Reserve. With over 80km of MTB trails and beautiful single track, you can imagine this requires a lot of hard work to maintain. This is where Bongani comes in, he is responsible for all the maintenance and development of the beautiful trails throughout the farm. Bongani is a very skilled mountain biker, and spends a large portion of his time checking the trails, testing the routes and ensuring the safety for all riders.

 

WHAT'S THE MONEY RAISED FOR?

 

We are raising money to help buy Bongani a new Mountain Bike to help with his role in maintaining the beautiful trails at Northern Farm. In order to maintain the safety and markings of the trails as well as build exciting new single track, Bongani needs to be out on the Farm on a bike himself. We feel that by funding a new bike for him, we can enable him to get around the trails better and faster, build and test out new single track and further develop his own MTB skills and fitness.
