The Brandkop Conservancy (Brandkop Bewarea) is a community initiative established on the 4th of December 2010 with the aim to preserve and protect the natural environment.  Its mission is to promote the protection of indigenous plants and wildlife, natural or important biological communities and landscapes of natural beauty.  They aim to work together with the authorities on the management of the conservancy.

In my personal opinion, the Brandkop Conservancy offers some of the best trails for mountain biking in the Bloemfontein area that is easily accessible.  Trails are continuously being maintained and there are some efforts to try and keep the place clean, tidy and safe.  It's a friendly area where hikers, joggers, cyclists and even pets are welcome.

The Brandkop Conservancy is recruiting voluntary members in an effort to improve the overall experience at the conservancy.  Cost to become a member is R160 per year.  Membership is voluntary, but please consider becoming a member as it could hold great advantages.  Continued trail maintenance will always be advantageous, as the trails erode rather quickly if they are left unattended.  Increased cleaning initiatives would help curb litter scattered all over.  Increased security measures would prevent illegal dumping and prevent bush sleepers from taking over.  Perhaps someday we could even see the end of (illegal) motor bikers entering and damaging the trails!

It's only 16 km of trails, but it's worth preserving!

Donations are also welcome.  Please feel free to contact them at brandkopbewarea@gmail.com
