I am not sure how much you commute but today I would probably not be here if I did not take the full lane. The twat wanted to try pass with another car oncoming and a car pulling out of side street. If I had let the car attempt to pass me he would have ran out of road and probably hit me.

All that happened today was he hooted I said thanks and carried on away while he sat in bumper to bumper traffic.

Inconsiderate drivers causing all the congestion in Claremont!!! They should stick to the N2 and N7!!!!!!!

Thankfully I have the option to use a number of back-roads on my commute.  With two well placed quiet pavements that allows me the opportunity to try an limit my exposure.  You might recall another post of me last week when I was in the car and a cyclist side-swiped a car along my commute route .... I did not see it happen, so I dont now if the cyclist ran out of road trying to avoid a drainage-cover, or if the car closed the gap to the pavement.

There ARE two other nicer commute options for me ..... but just way too dangerous !!!

PS - in the 80's I got knocked off my bike by a car ... i was traveling along a straight line, the car came from the front and turned in front of me.  Being "right" certainly made no difference to the femer fracture I sustained and the two operations etc etc .... The cause of the accident - absent minded 19 year old test driving a car .... split-second of lapse of concentration by another person impacted my life.  Fair to say I am very aware of the dangers we face out there.

To answer the question below, it's a mountain bike SPD type pedal cleat made by Shimano which is much easier to unlock and get out of than the normal cleat. It looks like the normal cleat except that its silver plated and is stamped "M". While the normal cleat will usually only unlock when you rotate your heel outwards, the multi-reiease cleat can be released in a variety of directions. Typically, I unlock by raising my heel. With the right SPD pedals its very close to the ideal compromise between a platform pedal and a normal clipless type setup. It's got all the advantages of the normal locking setup of a clipless arrangement but you can get out of it really fast when things go wrong (as they often do).

Hope this helps someone. The discovery of multi- release cleats was a great win for me.

What's a multi release clip
