In my experience Sram cassettes, especially the cheaper ones last forever so my vote would be for a Sram NX cassette.

Currently sitting at 6000km on my GX cassette with no slipping at all - changing to 1x12 now so I'm gonna retire it, but I'm guessing I could get quite a few more km from it. Just make sure you clean your drivetrain and replace chains often...

SRAM cassettes are much harder than Shimano cassettes and give way more mileage, but they cost twice as much and you need a XD driver to run them.

Hi got 8000km out of my Shimano XT 11spd Cassette! We did all the hard races like Tankwa, Ride to No where, a very muddy Attakwas and the Cape Epic. I have 8 chains that I degrease, clean and relube and rotate once a week. I will change my Cassette now but 8 chains was to many for one cassette, the chains have some life left, but not the Cassette. This time I will use 6 chains. The nice part of this system is that if you wash you bike, the are a clean chain waiting and you can clean the old chain at some other time. ( BE WARENED!!!! Buying 2- Cassetts, 12- chains and 2- sets of front sprockets,{Have to do my and the wife's bike} can make you want to start plying bowls!!)

Your method of swapping multiple chains is one of the more effective ones to get good mileage out of an cassette but it is extremely labour intensive and you have to keep log of your km's as not to run a single chain to long.

This would be a little hard for someone with limited time for riding and maintenance of this sort.

All about the price per km for me. Same as BF Goodrich all terains for the bakkie - expensive initial cost, but if you work out how many km you get out of it then it's actually not bad at all. The cheaper Sram cassettes are not too expensive either, and if you don't have an XD driver you can get a Sram NX cassette (11-42t) that works on a Shimano freebody.
