Modderfontein race

I went to ride there not knowing there was a race on. I was asked to follow the race route as not to ride against the flow. The race route was basically the reverse of the normal route. Race wasn't well supported, not many entrants from what i could see on the trails. Cannot understand why the organizers would attempt a 90km distance at Modders, the size of the reserve just isn't big enough for such a long distance they should have stuck to a 12, 32 & 60 km.

the trails were all good and well maintained - very little mud other than a few watery holes near the river sections

But its good to see Modders being used for more organised races and events, the more people using the reserve will make it harder for developers to get their hands on the land, which is a huge threat at the moment.

Just rode there now again and today was the trail run race. Same story, got in just before the race started and was asked to follow the route so I did the 32km route in reverse. Only one section near the dump where all the ibis's sit had about 50m of overgrown blackjacks, rest was clear.

The timing was a stuff up some people who couldn’t finish had their times taken as if they did at the end nobody was handing out the medals nobody cut the number board off my bike I still have it my finishing time wasn’t taken it was terribly organized next time they must get people who know what they doing but I doubt I’ll enter that one again

Also you can’t put people on the track that aren’t racing . I was getting held back by a few people taking their time on the track (which isn’t actually their fault)

My very first posting on 'The Hub', just showing that different people have different opinions, for whatever reasons. I rode yesterday and it was great. Great venue, nice tracks and views and most importantly excellently organized. In my experience it was a fantastic day on the bike and I would like to thank everybody involved.
