Why do people on here always reference (Insert some Pro's name here) setups?

 

They ride and wear what they are paid to ride and their bike setups are as relevant to normal human beings as an F1 drivers setup is to us on the daily school run.

My theory is that 29er wheels are faster on marathon-type events due to the flywheel effect - they require less energy to maintain a constant speed. The longer the event, and the higher the % of jeep and dirt roads, the bigger the advantage. Over shorter technical courses like those used in XCO, the advantage would be less. Just for having fun bombing down hills, wheel size should not matter.
