Bike Specification Advice (Mountain Bike Novice)

Hey Guys

 

Been cycling (road) on and off for a few years but I have finally taken the decision to sell my road bike and buy a mountain bike. I have entered the Sani 2 C so need to start some base training soon but I am in need of a bike. I have no real mountain bike experience but will definitely buy 2nd hand as I wan't a pretty decent bike.

 

Budget = 20 - 25k

Height: 1.83m

Weight: 85 kg

 

Any recommendation on bikes or minimum specifications ?

My 2c worth: look at drivetrain, brakes etc. Better parts = better interface. Bike A with X-brand components will coast less then Bike B with X-brand components. But you knew this already coming off road cycling. 

 

The Classifieds here could have a few nice bikes for R25K.

Check Bike Market website. They also advertise in the Classifieds.

Thanks Uncleslow will definitely have a look at look at the Bike Market. Also looking on teh Hub but haven't found any great specials yet
