thijsrm Posted August 23, 2021 Share Hello, Looking to build a bikepacking rig and want to fit 29 x 2.8 or 29 x 3.0 fast rolling tyres. I've searched the interwebs and can't find a place to source such tyres? Any advice? Maybe fat bike tyres? Thanks
Chadvdw67 Posted August 23, 2021 Share Maybe Maxxis Rekon +

thijsrm Posted August 23, 2021 Share Ja the Rekon I can get in 29 x 2.6 or 27.5 x 2.8. Can't seem to find 29 x 2.8. But the 2.6 is not a bad option either actually
hansolo Posted August 23, 2021 Share I also tried buying tires locally for my Krampus and ended buying WTB Ranger TCS Tough 29x3's from Bike24 a while back. This compariative review might also be a good start. https://bikepacking.com/gear/29-tires-list/ I wouldn't mind Maxxis Chronicles... thijsrm
thijsrm Posted August 24, 2021 Share Awesome, now the other thing is to check how much clearance the old hardtail has and if it can accomodate a 3.0! Looks like a healthy clearance but hard to know exactly
Blackheart Posted August 24, 2021 Share What is your rim width? I see the Rekon Race is now available in WT. I haven't run the WT, but the regular Rekon Race 2.4 on my 34mm wide rim puffed up to an honest 2.6 without flattening out too much. You can run super low pressure too if that is your thing. And they roll really fast.
thijsrm Posted August 24, 2021 Share Looking at getting new rims, either ID 30 or ID36. But leaning towards ID30. Ja the objective is to run super low pressures with a rigid fork.
