This is a serious question... somebody asked me and I was taken aback because the answer should be obvious but it's not (for me anyway)

So no mocking now please EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

On the TDF the overall leader takes the yellow jersey right??

Now.. if the same guy wins the next stage (and is still in the lead)... does he use the same jersey or is he handed a brand new one?

If someone else becomes the overall leader does he get his own yellow jersey?

In other words... do the organisers of the tour have 18 yellow jerseys just in case there is a new overall leader every day (improbable) or 1 jersey that is passed from leader to leader?  (eeeuuuww)

what about sizes etc...

just trying to understand the logistics

They prepare yellow jerseys for all the teams complete with sponsor logos.

I believe each team is responsible for their yellow jerseys, as it's branded with the teams' sponsors.  If a team does not have a supply of jerseys, they paint the guy yellow, and tattoo the sponsors logos on.

What stops him from wearing it in any other stage? Race rules or just etiquette?

He will be beaten to a pulp at the next feed zone or even urinated on :)

It's a brand new jersey every day' date=' even if you had it yesterday. The Logo is ironed on just before podium [/quote']

That's the way I understood it. They do this far all jerseys - They iron your team logo on it when you cross the line so that it's ready for podium

I presume Napalm was being Tongue. Actually the TDF organization has jerseys prepared for all the teams that are competing with sponsor detail.

Podium jerseys are long sleeve and zip up at the back - they are for presentation purposes only.

Each team responsible for their own yellow, green, polka, white racing jerseys - as many as may be required (for the number of stages), not forgetting that it is possible to have more than one candidate for each jersey in a team - look at CSC - Cancellara, 2x Schleck, Sastre etc etc and that's just yellow.

I can't imagine that the teams are responsible to provide their own yellow/green/white/polkadot jerseys. For interest sake, where did you guys read/hear this? The idea sounds kind of silly from a logistical point of view.

I'm not sure, but I always thought the Tour organisation provided the riders with racing yellow/green/white/polkadot jerseys (short and long) before the next stage, and I know the ones on the podium are only presentation jerseys which zip up at the back.

But to answer the original question, yes there is more than one yellow jersey (probably hundreds - Just look at all the jerseys getting signed after the presentation).
