Well, after realising that my mtb skills are worse even than my legs, I actually had a decent amount of fun. Luckily, being at the back, I was able to see all the proper lines through the thick sand, but disappointingly,, I think I left the only footprints in the tougher sections where most other probably stayed on 2 wheels.

But man, it's pretty out there. The views from the highest point on the route were something to behold. Pity I was already on a slippery slope to the bottom when I considered that a photo may have been a god idea. Next time...

Irrigation pipes criss-crossing the trail was a danger sign and one that was acknowledged as by trusty steed left me eating a bit of fynbos. What can I say.. eating fynbos is overrated - just like my bike skills. This after the soft sand made me look even sillier than I had just moments previously. And to think @Mamil asked if a gravel bike could be used. Well, it can, just not by me... I'd probably not have gotten 50m from the start, fallen in the thick sand and just sunk

One weird thing was the R60/person charged at the gate for supporters coming into the venue. We found this peculiar and parked outside.
