An Upgrade is Long Overdue!

I know you cant really police dialogue, especially online. But my intention is to tap into the vast wisdom and insight that exists in the bikehub community. I would appreciate constructive input and if we can please keep the banter to a minimum as it won't really help my cause.

My initial plan was to build a rim brake racing bike. A decent frame, proper carbon wheels and a groupset from Merlin Cycles. But its been a mission finding a suitable new frame locally. So I then expanded my parameters to include new or used disc brake bikes.

In the options detailed below which would be the wise move taking into account the following.

1. I have a rim brake bike which I also plan to upgrade with a different cheaper used frame and some cheaper carbon wheels.

2. Ideally I dont want to spend more than R60 000.

3. I am not really in a rush. But like a 5 year old I have little impulse control and the excitement is killing me.

4. Weight is a consideration but specs are more important.

5. I would prefere a new bike or frame I can build up. But if I can QC through a bike shop, I would consider used options.

6. I need a size L or XL depending on brand. 570-580mm top tube,  >180mm headtube.

Here are the options in no particular order.

These 2 are being sold by a hubber in JHB so I plan to view them soon.

There was also a Scott Addict 30 being sold for 25k by a hubber in Stellenbosch. But I was a bit worried about the overall condition. And now its been listed for 19k because of a crack in the rear wheel.

I open to considering other options. Complete bikes, builds hubbers can suggest (wheels groupset and frame combinations).

Thank you.

My 2c... being a rim brake bike fan. For 60K you can pick up a top tier, top spec bike from roughly 2018 - 2020. (Just before rim brake bikes started dying).

You see Sworks SL6 rim brake, Bianchi Oltre XR4 and XR3 as examples going for that sort of budget. They will have top tear mecahnical groupsets and some even with electronic. Some VERY VERY good deals around if you look and wait fot the right one. Bikes mentioned above that would have retailed between 150k - 200k new back then, for between 60k - 80k currently. Yes its "old tech" but damn they are good racing bikes.

Personally would rather have a top tier bike from a few years back than a mid tier current bike.

Enjoy the shopping.

That was my plan and in all honestly thats still my first preference. But I have had no luck searching online.

And if a brake disc bike comes along that's a good deal, would you go for it ?

Yes, I am willing to consider disc brakes bikes as well. I can always upgrade my current rim brake bike later.
