Hi all 👋

Are there any good WhatsApp cycling groups for the Garden Route area that one can join? George, Wilderness, Sedgefield, and Knysna are all in play.

Ideally, I'm looking for a local group / community that shares info and awareness around safety, routes, races etc.

Any recommendations would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🙏

@RowlThx. Also looking for groups that are less MTB specific and include general road/gravel riding, if anyone knows of anything.

They have a variety of groups/ride types, else there is always the 05:00 Palm Tyres option.

You're welcome to send me a PM.

The Sedgefield group does road rides on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (there is often some doing a road ride on Sunday as well), though road works in various places currently make the options a bit limited. Plus MTB/gravel rides most days except Monday.

@HdB Thank you for sharing. I will be in the Knysna / Sedgefield area through December with my road bike. Is there a WA group or a contact I might be able to connect with to join the Sedgefield group ride, or get some insight on routes / safety etc?

Appreciate the help 🙏🏼

All the rides start 6am from the Cycleworx shop, to avoid the worst traffic (I sometimes start a bit earlier to add an extra 10km or so, before meeting the group at the start). You can contact Eugene (number in the programme) to get added to the WhatsApp group. Or chat with Sean at the shop when you get here.

A lot of the routes get repeated a bit, so I won't join them all - got to balance riding with my wife, the group, other friends, and workouts on the trainer 😂

If you brought a gravel bike, you could do most of the MTB rides as well :)

Most of these road rides are less than 60km. If you are planning on doing the Festive 500 (I will try), you'd need to add a bit.
I don't see anything on the programme to Brenton-on Sea, which has some really nice views. I might request that for the 24th or 29th. Nor do I see Hoekwil on there...

@HdB You are legend. Thank you very much for sharing the program, details and numbers. I really appreciate it. I'll be in Knysna from the 16th - 23rd then heading on to Cape Town. We are flying in, so one bike for the trip.
I'll plan to join the road groups 17th - 19th and 21st; will buy you a coffee or a beer if you're on any of those. Thanks again!

Any MTB group rides in Mossel Bay area?

I am aware of a few people that ride together from the Klein Brak/Reebok/Tergniet area, where will you be based? They tend to not start super early though, all being retired 😁

I'm sure there are plenty others, roughly half of Bloem will be there on holiday; if all else fails check in at the local cycling shop.
