You still carry a tube and simply insert tube after removing messy tubeless rim strip if you have a problem.

I was actually thinking the other day that if you run tubeless it would be a good idea to carry your spare tube in a plastic bag so that you have somewhere to put the messy tubeless rim strip.

oh yes' date=' in other similar threads blokes were mentioning rear derailers? Do you need to carry this?

Rather carry a spare rear derailleur hangar.  You are more likely to need one of those.  I have one in my Camelbak and 2 in my commuting bag (one for the road and one for the MTB).

I second the hanger!

thought so Lin! Thanks.

Ummm should you use tyre levers or not ?

Depends how strong your fingers are .... seriously I try to use them only to remove the tyre but try to put it back on (90% successful) without!

The small piece that bolts onto the frame where the rear wheel axle is and your rear derailer then bolts onto that.

Hope that makes sense.

ok so now the real education starts - is a derailer hanger, just a hanger - or do you get types depending on your derailer?

Ianj, after looking at some pics - I got your description - its a wee bit of metal at the back that I have never noticed before

The derailleur hangers are different for different bikes (even models within the brands as well as the same models with different years .....). Make sure you order the one for your frame!

Thanks guys! Fantastic input. My bike is well maintained but ridden pretty hard. Taken all advice and got my pack packed.

Going to do the 35km race and see how it goes.

Gonna use the extra tube to drap the bar fridge.
