My Garmin picked up 4km of unpaved roads. There were some tricky sections earlier or first 15-20km but after that it was ok.

Still don't know why they don't split the short distance riders and long distance riders on Carnival road. You have double lanes in both directions. Can't you close one lane in each direction?

We did have wind but don't think it was that bad compared to other years.

I was watching for a RFS thread - how were the weather and road conditions?

Much better than I feared. Roads a bit damp at the start, but mostly dry after the first hour. A bit of rain threatened, but didn’t come to anything. Road surfaces were fairly typical - some nice smooth fast bits, some potholes and rough stuff

Does anybody know how is the Vukani ( mind the spelling) rider that went down near Carnival City in the BL group? Rider went down (unable to shield his face) hard.

I've been wondering the same,

I was directly behind him when he crashed. He was dressed in Blue and isn't a Vukani cyclist as I also thought. Some cyclists said that they saw him move a bit while he was being attended to by the ambulance personnel, I hope he is doing well wherever he is.

He was one of their under cover riders. Spoke to one of his team mates after the race. After seeing that I decided it's not worth it flying through traffic and decided to cruise back from there. Blue Meride Reacto 6000 Disc bike
