Hi There

Fairly new to Mountain Biking so still have loads to learn. I have the aforementioned shock on my Merida Big Nine 900 TFS Hardtail. When i look at the air pressure recommended for this fork which is pasted on the fork for my weight its say the air psi for fork is about 25psi. However when speak to various other riders and youtube sag is about 20 - 30 % when I have the air pressure set as per fork specs it's way more than 30% nearly 50% and additionally the lockout does not lockout loads of play but increasing psi pressure enabled the lockout to effectively function as well as give me the 25% SAG required. Was this the right course of action or will this cause me problems.. Additionally on the schock its says ACT AIR what does that mean excuse my ignorance...Β

The ACT refers to the type of spring - it's an air assisted coil, which is why the pressure you need to run is so low.

Sag beats pressure recommendations every time, so go with the pressure that gives you the correct amount of sag as a starting point and fine tune from there.

As for the lockout - it's an old fork, so if it hasn't been serviced recently that would be a good thing to do. A decent service centre should pick up any issues while they've got it apart. Fresh seals and oil will do wonders for the ride quality.

If you let me know where you're based I can recommend someone close by if you'd like to take it in yourself, or you can DM me and I can organise transport and service.
