Any locals or experienced riders have any input for me? We are looking to do a 3 day Gravel Bike/ Bikepack trip (+-100k a day) starting and ending in George. We have been West & to Swartberg side before and are wanting to head towards the passes in Knysna area this time.

this is our draft route

Im wondering if there are any great sections we should include or bad ones to avoid? Is it worth exploring Plett side more?

Is Montagu pass still closed?

Thanks for your help 🙏

The Montagu pass is technically closed to the public, yes.:

Doesn't stop people from riding it, but if something goes wrong, it would be difficult for emergency services to get to the affected. @capediver did it a few months ago, in the other direction though.

Work has also restarted on the section of the Seven Passes road, between the university and the Wilderness turnoff.

Supposedly complete closure now for a section.

Check out the videos on my channel...summary plus a few others...

If you going anti clockwise from George...the Prince Alfred Pass is going be hugely!!! Also Simola albeit shorter...but gravel roads are all mostlu6really good...Ja Old Montagu Pass is passable both ways...just one short section that is really rocky...

Enjoy!!!!

There's some comments here..

PS...from Knysna Lagoon up Simola Hill...keep going to Gouna then cut across Kom Se Pad to Diepwalle..it was the highlight of my ride...time it to get to the Gouna gate by 08h00 to pay the toll fee...R142 IIRC...
