just a quick one -

lbs advised me that a 12-25 was not compatable on the ultegra compacts.

currently running a 11-23

and before anyone asks i am going to be riding some big hills soon and need all the help getting the big body over them

Hmmm... Dunno about that, I ride those ratios on my compact crank, it's not an Ultegra crank but all the same in my opinion?

I rode the Etape last year on that exact combination. Ultegra Compact (50/34) and 12-25 cassette. Trained with it for 3 months before with no problems.

 

Go for it, it is a good combination for serious climbs.
