Shaun - I hope you told him to grow up.  I don't see cyclists calling all motorists bad drivers based on the actions of taxi's for example.

This expectation that cyclists should somehow be models of law abiding citizens before they expect to be treated as rightful occupants of the road is ludicrous.  When motorists (all of them) stop speeding' date=' running lights, changing lanes without indicating etc then we can start that discussion.  Until such time it is a non-issue.

i'm afraid us cyclists are generally in the wrong here. A much larger % of cyclists ride *** than motorists...

Sure, taxis drive horribly, but they're what? 0.05% of road users? It seems that more than 50% of cyclists show a flagrant disregard for road rules when wearing their invincible lycra...

fand, I think if we were to be just as critical towards motorist as they are towards cyclists, the figures would pretty much balance out.  Do yourself a favour and look critical to everything motor vehicles do.  South Africans are pretty bad road users and then some of them cycle as well but that is when most poeple notice their bad behaviour.

This morning I was almost wiped out by a car ... why  ... because I stopped at a yellow traffic light to allow the traffic in the intersection to get out of the way.  It would not surprise you that the motorist behind me was swearing at me because he could not jump what would have been a read light for him.

Are you sure? Every day I see between 50 an 100 traffic violations by motorists.  I usually break 4 or 5 (ie I clip in and start riding before the rest of the traffic starts the mad rush to the next light).

How many motorists do you know that don't speed ie put other road users at risk because they can't manage their time?

And is somewhat easier to kill with a car than it is with a bicycle so car drivers should behave with greater responsibility.
