Low Normal Dual Control Help

Will replace cable and housing on the weekend. Think I will run a continuous outer. 3 months for XTR kit not too good.

I had exactly that problem.  Old cables and dirty shifter internals.

 

Which shifters? Don't really want to strip mine.

I have the same problem. I can get it sorted by adjusting the tension barrel but the the shift down gets screwed-up. I think in my case is worn pulleys.

Mine are XTR, but you don't need to strip them.  Just take the outer covers off, use some chain cleaner and a toothbrush, rinse with water, lube with very light lube.

 

Solid housings are a very good idea.  Makes the routing a bit interesting, but very worth it.

Skinny Legs, That was the same symptom.  New cables will sort it.

DawieO, looks like your prognosis is right. I can "click" up 8 clicks but there are only 7 audible "clicks" down. I think something is clogging up the ratchet system. But getting these covers off is another story. I have taken out the 3 screws and even checked the Shimano technical drawings and that's all there is. I dont want to force these plastic bits as they are quite fragile. The 05 XTR was much easier to dismantle than this new XT.

 

There goes tomorrow mornings ride.

Right, got the cover off without breaking anything but now I am stuck. Can't find any drawings of what these things should look like inside and the spring that I think is in the way is so piddly that I can just see it breaking and know that I won't get a replacement.

I think I have found the offending spring but that is for tomorrow morning. I will post a pic once I solve my problem. Hopefully all will be put back together before a morning ride.
