The “spirit of gravel” is already dead so he may as well build something he can sell to the Ironman group for big bucks in a few years (insert joke emoji)

With all okes involved, i cant see this starting off small/cheap.

This is going to be "epic" from the start.

Good luck to them.

was sold out before last weeks info session at the Bike Park. I think TrailAngels bought some entries which they are selling to raise money for charity. Make contact with Nicky Haywood if keen to ride it

There is a big star rider from the US coming, so this race will definitely get the attention across the pond. Just a pity most locals won’t really be able to enjoy our own backyard.

You can. The dirt roads are open to the public. Get some mates together and go on a multi day ride.

Exactly.

You can probably find a zillion routes in the EC Karoo that are gravel friendly. go between the old sheep farming areas and ciskei/transkei and you get a mix between hunting lodges and spaza shops.

I had a spare day near the queenstown area and just winged a 70km route, the potential seemed endless - if i lived in the EC i would be doing this twice a year.

Wonder if they'll not allow entrants to post on Strava to gatekeep the gravel roads and prevent people from riding the routes by themselves

of course.

there will be a lot of public roads. but the nice thing is many will be graded* for the event.

The recce rides were uploaded, some influencers along for the ride (some epic german rider involved).

*the trick is to do a gonzo ride 2 days ahead of the event.
