Juicy brake levers...advice needed?

What's the deal with the Avid Juicy 5's brake levers? I just got a set and they have a position which they can clip into when you pull them away from the handlebars...what's that used for? I can only assume its to prevent you from accidentally pulling the lever when you dont have the wheels in. Only the one has it...front brake...the other not?

I have also noticed it but I think both levers do it on my tandem...I would also like to know what it does... I dont think its to stop you from pressing it when your front wheel isnt in as it moves easily

According to SRAM its there to eliminate any drag when climbing. Apparently it opens the pistons up slightly more.

I must admit I am not super impressed by their stopping power, the V-brakes on my XTC are def more deadly than the Juicy 5's, do they take a bit of time to settle?

Yes they do, the pads need to wear in as do the rotors. New discs also sometimes need to be bubbled, the process by which all residual air is pumped outa da resivoirs.

Then you have to buy a new adaptor as well, a costly procedure. Try getting all the air outa the system first, re-bleed if nessecary. It'll probably work and be alot cheaper.

some one else agrees with me.

"...Another nice feature of the Juicy design is the pop out feature of the lever assembly. In the event of a crash, the lever blade rotates away from the body without doing any damage to the master cylinder. Once you pick yourself up and dust off, simply pull the blade back into place and ride away..."

Please accept my apologies then.

How do you adjust the "reach" of the brake lever...with cable you simply adjust the barrel screw, what's the procedure with the hydraulics?

There is a little screw behind the lever blade, I think its a size 2 allen key. Screw in clockwise to increase reach and vice versa to decrease reach.
