ok so for todays lesson .... the take home message is ....

1. get your weight right (somewhere in the ever changing middle). This takes practice.

2. be prepared to spend some time on all fours. This takes practice.

3. be prepared for variable tyre pressure. This takes practice.

4. The most important, practice, practicing.

Tomorrows lesson, will be on cadence & ettiquette issues.

A smooth pedal action and relaxed body on the bike will help. Do not fight with the bike and guide the bike where you want it. Relax the shoulders and do not strangle the handlebar.

muddy - thanks for the advice, I will very much be riding there more often as its easier to get to than Jonkershoek (less robots for me).

Dirty Twin, thanks, like my signature says - here to learn. Did you not ride transbaviaans?

That is correct. Same with your pull action on the other side.

slowbee' date=' do you use bar ends on climbs? don't. rather "lock" your elbows and climb with hands on your grips.[/quote']

this I do. you called right HR, did use the bar ends. So must rather just use the grips.

Lesson 7 - It's a MTB' date=' not a mtn bike. Tongue

lesson 7 (amended) - it's an mtb, not a mtn bike.

You see, when I read MTB it translates in my mind to "mountain bike", so I write a MTB, like "a mountain bike". But if you read MTB and your mind translates it "EM TEE BEE" then I suppose "an MTB" is fine for you.

Not that I'm required to write for a living or anything, so I'll just get it wrong! TongueLOL

i find it forces you back onto your saddle. i only use the bar ends for an alternative place to put my hands on long straights.
