This is off Jared Graves' webiste:

"I stuck my nose in front for a second, but didnt get the best exit speed from the corner but I was right back in it, maybe I should have come over a bit further on the exit of the turn and shut Strombergs down but not much I can do about that now. Mike day got a good run down the 2nd straight but I still came into the 2nd turn in 3rd, Donny Robinson was coming up hard on the Inside and so was Sifiso, seems like Sifiso tried a bit too hard into turn 2 and he lost it and took myself and Damien Godet down with him, but no hard feelings, he was just trying to win an olympic medal, as was everyone else. But it would have been really nice to come away with a medal."

Really impressed with his take on the incident. Well done!

typical whining aussie:

?

Graves was angry at what he deemed was "stupid" riding on the part of some of his rivals."I was just trying to lean into the corner to hold on to third and guys are just riding stupid' date=' trying moves that weren't on," he said."I'm pretty disappointed about how some of the other guys rode. I know they've got to be aggressive, it's the Olympic final, but they took themselves down in the process."

there was definitely contact before - or just into - the berm. he can't moan. sifiso slid out from underneath him.?

sorry, rush of blood to the head. but he had no chance of shutting him down. photographic evidence shows that sifiso got the slimmest of holeshots, strombergs held his line into the the 1st corner. sifiso got boxed in. exited the first corner in fourth, was half a bike-length behind graves into the 2nd curve. he moved across skizo. our boy had nowhere to go. graves lost. boo-hoo.

Dont want to revisit this as I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum. I truly think Skizo took the line too hard and was never going to turn in. He had to or he was out anyway.Ouch

it's a valid point. did he overcook it into the turn? maybe. he scuffed his landing on the way into turn 2 in his last semi, so maybe he didn't fully correct before the corner. but, search on the "sifiso in beijing" thread, where i've posted some pics and you will see graves moving across in the air and tightening his line before the crash. it was a racing incident. not aggression, like graves first suggested. half a dozen of one, six of the other. but i reckon skizo deserves an apology for the initial reaction. sure, graves was upset, but so was skizo.

del-boy, hard to say. there seems to be a vital piece of video footage missing (crikey, this sounds like a grassy knoll story!), but the way i saw it, graves was looking to close down skizo into turn 2 cos our boy had made up ground in the second straight. that's why graves was moving across. the footage from the back suggests they touched as they hit the asphalt berm. skizo appears to loose the bike from under him, then it hits graves' back wheel. the way i see it: it's such a close-quarters type of sport that no one is to blame. but since graves is the one who bitched about it, i've looked at it over and over, and reckon it was the aussie's "aggressive" moves that caused it. watch him into turn 1 (on youtube), and you will see that he was balls to the wall and was riding a good race, but then to bawl about it later...blaadie aussie!

That's a perfect summary, HR. Tried to write a similar one a few times last night but couldn't make it sound objective enough.
