Anyone keen on helping fix the bridge at Alberts Farm? Either some time this week (late afternoon) or weekend. If anyone has already made plans to fix please let me know and I will come and help.Ouch

I noticed that on my run yesterday morning.

The bridge was built by Swampdogs and I'll let the Big Dog know and we'll take it from there.

Was there around 07:50.

I think the some malicious thugs (Wink) caused the damage on Saturday when they had a Spring Day at Alberts.

I'm going past tonight to count the number of slats that need replacing & then we'll make a plan to repair the bridge.

Was there last night, 13 slats are either damaged or missing.

Busy trying to organise some wood & then repairs will start, hopefully by the weekend.

Ja... tell me now.... undertaking these repairs, and don't get me wrong it's just a question considering that I heard a story earlier this week, could you be liable if I fell and injured myself on a bridge you repaired in good faith? I know you did the repairs, you publicised it on The Hub. So when I break my leg I say, "Those guys on The Hub did a bad job, I want to sue them!"

Your thoughts?

I considered this when I was involved in the repair of the other spruit bridge... even thought about putting up a disclaimer Wink

I think any individual would have to be pretty desperate (and pathetic) to resort to such extremes.....  or American

oh and who they going to sue? Nancy Drew?? will admin be obliged to hand out my information?

Hi Nancy, all the work has been done by The Thug. I dont mean this because I fear some sort of action just dont want to be thanked for anything that I have not done.

Pantani, I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Parks and to be honest I have not got anywhere. This is exactly what those who have tried before me have told me. They dont know whether "crossings" which I have been told to call them fall under facilities, environment or JRA. Basically as long as it is installed for the purpose of "navigating" the "hiking" trail and not an obstacle a blind eye will be turned.

This is an unofficial standpoint and basically these guys have too many things to do to worry about bikers as long as nobody is doing themselves any serious harm.

My personal approach is that I will help with existing structures where possible and if required to help keep them safe. I do not think any additional structures are required for safe passage. If anyone thinks that there is a "crossing" required they should mobilise their own work party, don the camouflage and erect under cover of night. If it makes the trail easier it shouldnt be a problem.

Pantani, the bridge in question is at the bottom of Alberts Farm and traverses a swamp area. This was built and maintained by Swampdogs. There was at one time a sign to that effect as well.

The bridge not only provides a "service" to the mountain bikers but also to the numerous residents who frequently walk their dogs in the area.

Yes, I suppose that by falling off one can injure yourself but as ND says, anyone will have to be extremely desperate to take legal action for injuries suffered by falling 40cm into a marsh !

Yeah well, after the fiasco of the teeter totter or whatever it's called, you can't be too careful. And that is the sad part, that your good intentions might come into question and become a liability to you...
