same here....when I saw the colour scheme on the eastons I just knew I had to get them and on top of that...they are brilliant wheels.  Excellent value for moneymbaymike2008-10-09 13:01:32

The question remains, "why did the rims develop cracks"?

Is it just poor quality material, is it a spoke issue (too tight /  too loose) bad wheel building initially or are they just not designed for our "potholed" roads?

There must be reason, which may be interesting to know, possibly avoid issues later on again.

I must say I had a set of VELOMAX wheels a few years ago, I bounced them through potholes, rode them year in and year out without so much as looking at them, they never went out of true and I never broke a spoke. They were great.

Unlike these wheels I have now, which go out of true in the garage.!!

Anyway, I owe Johan a favour, so maybe this will "prick" his interest?Wink

Rims crack for one or a combination of reasons.

1) Anodising

2) Too little material in there

3) Poor Design

A cracked rim seldom has anything to do with the build. In fact, I can't think of a reason a poor build will cause a rim to crack.

I've never examined these NewWhassiname rims so I can't say. I'd like to have a look at the OP's cracked rims when he's finished crying over them. Perhaps then I can comment.

However, I took a hacksaw to a Ksyrium rim (my rule is if you can't pronouce the rim's name when you're pissed, it will crack) and discovered why they crack. I was astonished that Mavic has sunk so low.

Full report with photos to follow.

Ok about a year ago my Dad and i bought 2 sets of Neuvation wheels from a cycle shop in Cape Town. So anyway' date=' now the rims have started small cracks. You know where the spoke goes into the rim? Ja there... Its bad! A friend showed me a set of Neuvation wheels that he WAS racing on which have massive cracks in the rims...! He has replaced the rims 3-4 times!!!!

Please may I have a look at one of the cracked rims when you're finished. I'd like to see what crimes the manufacturer committed in the design of them.

seriously do what i did buy a set of mavic cosmic carbone rims and they will work on those hubs and spokes you will just need extra long nipples that can tighten from the inside

Turtlek, i tried to PM you but mailbox is full.

Are you sure those rims will work? Neuvations have 16 spoke holes on the front and 20 on the rear...

will sort out the inbox now speedi and yes it will work i have just done a similar conversion to my hubs that i have had lying around i now have a 20 hole front cosmic (rim is actually made for the back) with an ambrosio hub and DT Swiss spokes and at the back i have the front rim with a 16 hole dura ace hub with DT swiss spokes workss perfectly and compared to my friends cosmics i cant feel a difference at all

you can get the nipples from a mavic dealer but you will need a special tool aswell (tube socket in imperial sizing i cant remember the exact sizing now though)
