DA vs Ultegra SL vs Ultegra - Brilliant Article

An interesting read. Having read that, my money would go on the Ultegra stuff. The benefit of cold vs hot forged, fluorine-tipped link pins and the plastic (how come whenever companies get fancy they call it "polymer") is neither here nor there.

I thought the bit where they show the exposed vs recesses limit screws was nonsense. Impact doesn't happen in that area unless you get flattened by a roller.

I think ball bearings in jockey pulleys is a bad move. Small bearings like that quickly crud up and jam. Bushings are adequate for that application and far more robust in dirt. They should make the bushings more expensive and play on their ceramic bits.

I am amazed at what lenghts designers go in order to attempt differentiation between their products. Shimano hubs in the XT/LX league have the same problem.

Bushings with good seals work jsut as well in a Jockey wheel application.

I have those KCNC jockey whels on my Campag record rear deraileur and fortunately the bearings are easily serviced, But een on a road bike its amazing how quickly they crud up.

Ultegra, XT, X.9 level components are more than adequate for everyone.

Of coursewe're free to chose the bling,
