Hence my reason for asking this question in the first place. I think most importantly is what you want to do.

 

I have only had the opportunity checking out the Delta night loop. This loop has a couple of obstacles and you also have the opportunity of surveying the route before nightfall. Hence should you be buying lights for this you dont need to go overboard.

 

XC night races are a bit more technical and you dont have the chance of riding the route prior to nightfall. The route are much longer (7-10kays) which means more obstacles and more route to memorise.

 

24 Hour races and longer marathons and ultra marathons run at night put more demands on battery longevity as well as luminoscity where fatigu plays its part.

 

This is like buying a bike, wheels, pedals, brakes, cranks..........whatever, same questions and budget constraints.
