Hey

I'm having a problem deciding between the two. I want to buy a new bike, because now would be a better time with prices still "normal". Next year is going to be a ......... !!

What do you guys think of Sram Red?? Read a few articles on that and the biggest thing, comming from the articles is the "noise" red makes??

Now I don't know if that is a bad noise or just a normal one. Contador rides RED so if pro's don't mind that then what will the draw back be? Dura ace sound silent enough to me - but like the sram red look...

New DA by the way is too expencive for not that much a differance.

Help - some of you hubbers out there riding sram red??? Apparently RED is quite comfy.... vs DA

Thanx - will be watching this topic

Big price difference between Red & 7800, too. I prefer the ergonomics of the SRAM shifters - did not like the feel of Shimano.

I prefer the 7800 crank and brakes (marginally) to Red, but if money was not an issue I would go for Red plus a Zipp VumaQuad crank.

The noise that red makes is the same as record, when you shift gears it is  a loud change and you can hear quite well that you changed gears......where as dura ace is very quiet when shifting

so its not a continious noise while your pedalling along?? Is it something that will stop you from buying the RED and rather go with DA??

Is it true that RED require a lot of attention to keep it going smoothly as DA is more reliable all the time??

No it is definitely not something that should stop you from buying red!!! i think that you should rather go for red.

Also no it does not need more attention

Its just that the price gap is somewhat big, so if I decide to go with red I would like to be very happy all the way. I get the feeling that DA is like a AK47 and RED is like the US M16 - get the picture?

Just don't want the bike to spend a lot of time in the service department than on the road.

The red cassette is hollow, this makes the meshing of the chain and the sprockets sound a bit louder as you ride along. Some people dont like the noise, others dont mind. Christie2008-10-15 21:30:51

I don't have the reds but I have SRAM Force....and Dura Ace.

Personally I find the hoods of the SRAM a lot more comfortable than Dura Ace and the changing to be sharper and cleaner and not as finicky as Dura Ace...which you always seem to have to be fine tuning.

So I'd go SRAM definitely

Dura ace works very well loads of pro teams use it....if you want something lighter more comfy and  a little bit better changing that da than go for red

But dura ace shifts well its a bit more heavy but has been tried and tested and works well than go for it and save some cash....you can always get a carbon crank where you can save some grams

Go SRAM. The group set is light. (sub 1.9 with the new RED cranks) The ergonomics of SRAM is better than campy and Shimano, and quite frankly when it comes to being able to change in either direction quickly SRAM is top notch.

And the best thing about the whole set up is the ability to change while sprinting in the drops by just literally "flicking" your wrist.
